Jordan Poole has had a stellar season in 2021-22, and there’s no denying he’s played a key role in the Golden State Warriors’ championship run. So much so that the Dubs should face a bit of a headache once Poole reaches free agency next summer. He’s done enough to prove he deserves a big payday — something the Warriors and their limited cap space might not be able to afford.
Stephen Curry and the rest of the Dubs aren’t going to like the latest Poole rumors. An unnamed Eastern Conference executive has now come out to say he thinks the Orlando Magic could make a move on Poole next summer (via heavy.com’s Sean Deveney):
“I would be careful that the Magic be prepared to make an offer if they are restricted, knowing that there is a good chance that Golden State will not match,” said the exec.
The fact that Poole is a restricted free agent means the Warriors can match any offer from an opposing team like the Magic. However, depending on what’s on the table, Golden State may not be financially able to do the same.
The unnamed exec went on to discuss the prospect of Poole playing with Orlando’s young talent:
“They are going to establish something with Paolo (Banchero) in the frontcourt, with his passing. But they’re also going to need a top perimeter scorer. If you put Poole with Paolo and Franz Wagner, it’s an exciting young team,” the executive said.
As for the Warriors, while they would like to keep Jordan Poole, they may have no choice but to let him go next summer:
“They make a lot of money,” the exec said. “They can do things that most other teams can’t, right down to keeping their talent in place. But even with that, there are limits. They made a choice with (Gary) Payton. They will relive that here.
