Paid parking returns to YK Airport on September 19

Paid parking returns to Yellowknife Airport beginning the morning of September 19.

Beginning at 8:00 a.m. this Saturday morning, all vehicles parking in the airport’s short-term and long-term parking areas will be required to pay for their parking before leaving each parking lot.

Parking rates will be the same as before the Covid-19 pandemic, the territorial government said in a statement released Monday.

During the pandemic, the airport has implemented free parking in the parking lot outside the terminal due to reduced traffic.

Vehicles that were left in the short-term car park in front of the terminal before the start of the new payment system will be allowed to exit the car park free of charge until the end of October 2. After October 2, people will have to pay $150 to get out. with their vehicle.

Any cars still in the short-term lot on Nov. 19 will be considered abandoned, the Department of Infrastructure said in Monday’s news release, and will be towed away at the owner’s expense.

In short-term parking, parking will continue to be free for the first hour of parking, but a ticket is still required to leave the parking lot.
