Naby Keita likely signals Liverpool exit with contract decision

Naby Keita has made some kind of decision on his contract at Liverpool, according to reports. The Guinean could leave Anfield.

This comes from Christian Falk of Bild. The journalist claims Naby Keita won’t discuss his contract at Liverpool until January.

Keita’s contract expires in 2023, making it a massive move for his future. After all, other clubs can also negotiate with the midfielder from January. In other words, the player won’t speak with Liverpool until he hears of further formal offers for his services.

It’s a sign that Keita doesn’t see his future on Merseyside, certainly. He has spent most of this campaign injured, which is a blow to his chances of landing a big contract.

It looks like he thinks other clubs might be better placed to give him what he wants.

Naby Keita makes Liverpool contract decision

It seems like it’s time to move on. Even though Jurgen Klopp considers Keita an ‘exceptional’ player, it’s clear Liverpool can’t rely on him.

The Guinean has all the talent in the world at times, but injuries and poor form mean you rarely see him. When you do, Keita is spectacular and that alone makes contract negotiations difficult.

Keita is 27, which means this is the last major contract of his career. His talent dictates it should be for huge salaries on a long-term deal. His contributions for Liverpool suggest otherwise – it’s not a long-term investment worth paying big bucks for.

And so we see this as a move that sees Keita leave Liverpool in 2023. The Reds need to invest more in their midfield as it is and if the player is unsure if he is at the club he should be du kind of make way.

It would be a blow to lose such a player for free, but we don’t see it heading any other way.
