After leaving Albert Square earlier this year, Jake Wood announced his return to the theater with a new play.
The EastEnders star left the soap opera after 15 years playing the role of Max Branning, and has been enjoying her free time since.
Now, on Instagram, Jake has announced a new project that will see him star alongside Lily Allen, Hadley Fraser and Julia Chan.
In a post shared with his 180,000 subscribers, Jake said: “Buzzing to announce @ 222aghoststory Amazing new play, amazing team, book your tickets now www.222aghoststory . ”
The promotional poster image features the play as a ghost story, from the author of the Battersea Poltergeist.
The synopsis for the play on the official website reads: “Jenny (Lily Allen) thinks her new house is haunted, but her husband Sam (Hadley Fraser) doesn’t.
“They argue with their first guests, old friend Lauren (Julia Chan) and new partner Ben (Jake Wood).
“Can the dead really walk again?” Belief and skepticism clash, but something looks strange and scary, and that something is approaching, so they’re going to stand… until 2:22… and then they’ll know.
The play will take place at the Noel Coward Theater for 11 weeks, starting August 3.
Jake Wood’s final scenes on EastEnders aired earlier this year, as his character left the Square after being rejected by Linda Carter.
His character, Max, was not killed, which many fans hope to mean the door has been left open for a possible return one day.

When his departure was announced late last year, Jake took to Instagram to say, “I loved playing Max Branning who, among other things, had 4 marriages, 10 relationships, 4 children ( 2 fallen from the roof of The Queen Vic), was buried alive, watched unwanted DVDs over Christmas and perhaps most traumatic of all… shared a hot tub with Ian Beale.
“I made some great friends during the series and I will miss everyone. I am grateful that they left the door open for Max and I am delighted to see what new horizons are around the corner.
“Thanks to everyone who messaged me this week, I appreciate the love and support.”
