Ancelotti reflects on punishing El Clasico defeat for Real Madrid

Gareth Bale will leave Real Madrid at the end of the season but no future move has been decided yet, his agent has confirmed.

Jonathan Barnett has confirmed Bale will leave the Spanish capital this summer at the end of his contract but insisted his client ‘loves’ the city and his decision to leave was not easy. The agent also denounced the “parasites” who have constantly undermined the Welshman.

Bale recently denounced Spanish outlet Marca as ‘disgusting’ for comparing him to a parasite claiming he sucks money from the Spanish giants. Bale concluded a rant against the reports by saying: “We all know who the real parasite is!” The striker had faced further criticism from the Madrid media following his starring role for Wales in their playoff win over Austria last month.

The Welshman appeared to be enjoying a breath of fresh air in the Spanish capital following the return of boss Carlo Ancelotti this summer. The Italian was in the dugout whenever Bale signed for Los Blancos from Tottenham in the summer of 2013 and the striker’s best form at the club came under the boss. Yet Bale picked up another injury, a hamstring injury, seeing him miss months of the campaign, while various fitness setbacks have since delayed his return to action.

Bale has only played twice for his club since August: one of them was a three-minute substitute appearance against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. By contrast, the 32-year-old has made seven appearances for his country in the same time frame. The striker scored in the 3-3 draw at Levante and appeared to have the confidence of Ancelotti, with whom he won the Copa del Rey and Champions League titles in 2014.

Still, Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo Goes have been regulars in Madrid’s attack ahead of Bale, with Marco Asensio also frequently selected ahead of the Welshman – who found himself uninvolved in first-team action under Ancelotti to the same degree as ‘Eden Hazard, Isco and Luka Jovic. Now his agent Barnett has confirmed his exit at the end of the campaign.

Bale has only made one La Liga appearance for Real Madrid since August

Barnett told Spanish TV channel Deportes Cuatro: “Bale deserves a big farewell from the club. And no, we haven’t decided on the future yet.” Barnett went on to praise Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, who he said has always been ‘very loyal and supportive’ of the Welshman.

Barnett then turned his anger on those who had continued to criticize Bale: “He speaks Spanish. What happens is people who don’t know him say he doesn’t know him. Stupid, ignorant people who didn’t talk to him. That’s a shame. He has always been very happy in Madrid, he arrived as a young man, his children were born in the city, he gave a lot of money to Spanish hospitals for Covid (a report of £ 400,000) and he loves the city and the club and I think it’s the parasites who speak ill of him.”

Bale won a total of 13 trophies at Real Madrid, including two La Liga titles and four Champions League crowns. However, his playing time under Zinedine Zidane and Ancelotti has dropped significantly in recent years – with him exiting this summer at the end of his contract.
