Dani Alves says he would like Lionel Messi to end his career at Barcelona.
Alves and Messi worked together for years until the former left for Juventus in 2016.
At that time, the Brazilian couldn’t have known that he would have the opportunity to return to Camp Nou, especially not at 38 years old.
But sometimes the stars align, even if not quite perfectly.
If Alves were to return, he would have imagined it would be alongside Messi, who seemed destined to spend his entire career at Barcelona.
But the events of the summer saw the Argentine leaving for PSG on a free transfer due to financial issues at Camp Nou.
Alves missed the chance to play with Messi but hopes his former team-mate and close friend will return to Catalonia one day.
Speaking in an interview with Catalunya Ràdio’s Tot Costa via Sport, he said: “Messi is the best player in the history of football. It’s strange to be here and not see him, not to have him on the team.
“Sometimes things don’t turn out the way we dream. I already told him he wasn’t going to be in a better place than here.
“He said the same to me when I left. It would be great if Messi finished his career here.
