2021 Departure Meetings – C/G BJ Finney

The Pittsburgh Steelers are back at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex sooner than they expected, after being knocked out of the playoffs in the first round, which sadly marks the fifth straight season in which they haven’t failed to win a playoff game – a new record for the franchise since the merger. Again, they find themselves going through the exit meeting process sooner than expected, which means we are too.

The Steelers arguably performed at or above expectations this year going 9-7-1 and making the playoffs, a reflection of all the talent they lost in the offseason, the majority of the offensive line to Mike Hilton, Bud Dupree, Steven Nelson and Vince Williams, not to mention Stephon Tuitt, basically.

While we may not know all the details about what happens between head coach Mike Tomlin and his players at these exit meetings, we do know how we would run these meetings if they were left to us. So here are the Depot exit meetings for the Steelers roster after the 2021 season.

Player: BJ Finney

Position: G/C

Experience: 6 years

BJ Finney thought he was off to greener pastures in 2020 when he signed with the Seattle Seahawks in 2020 as an unrestricted free agent. It didn’t exactly turn out that way, and in a year he would be traded and then released. However, his former team has not forgotten him.

The Steelers actually brought Finney back before free agency even started (which they could do, of course, since he was a street free agent, readily available after his release), although he didn’t been signed only for a one-year qualifying contract without a signature. premium.

After playing a few musical chairs at the start of the year – he was initially released knowing that they could easily re-sign him so they could make some roster changes to get players on the roster. reserve / injured – Finney would spend every other second of the season with the team.

He opened the year as the main reserve goalkeeper, while JC Hassenauer was their main reserve center and recorded offensive time in four games. After Kevin Dotson was injured at the end of the year, he was the next man to start, making a start with every snap of his fingers, but suffered a back injury three games into the next game.

He spent the rest of the season on the reserve/injured list, and Hassenauer would soon join him there, allowing John Leglue the opportunity to feature. Hassenauer will eventually return, however.

As it stands, Finney is expected to be an unrestricted free agent later this month, and it’s unclear if the Steelers will re-sign him. They should be able to do that easily on another minimum contract with no signing bonuses, so if they decide to bring him back, it wouldn’t be a bad thing, no fault with nothing – including a roster spot – guaranteed.
